Become a Volunteer or Intern
As an volunteer-run collective, SAFER relies on the amazing work of many volunteers to perform the essential duties of our organization. We are often in need of many short- and long-term volunteers to help with student outreach, communications and media strategies, web design, video editing, fund raising, expanding our policy database, research projects, event planning, blogging and so much more!
Please see our current list of open volunteer positions posted on Idealist.org. We also offer internships each semester and over the summer. Internships are unpaid, but there is one scholarship available per internship session. Internships can also be completed for college credit.

Host a Fundraiser
Student sponsored fundraisers are a fun way to support SAFER and become a part of our network. Fundraisers make great community service and student group projects and are easy to organize! Your time and creativity in developing a fundraising event is crucial to the work that we do.
If you would like to organize a fundraiser for SAFER, please contact us so we can send you materials to distribute such as information about our resources and trainings and help you brainstorm ideas for your campus.
Below are just a couple of fundraiser ideas:
- Organize a screening of University Silence, a short documentary film created by Sarah Richardson, a founding board member and currently a member of the Board of Advisors. Narrated by a survivor of a campus assault, it is a powerful illustration of the challenges of unresponsive administrations, the struggles of survivors, and a call for colleges and universities to take the noble step of being honest rather than pretending to be perfect. In the words of the narrator, “perfect doesn’t happen.” You can purchase the DVD and host a screening or fundraiser for SAFER by clicking here.
- Perform for SAFER! Every year, V-Day, a global movement to end violence against women and girls, helps students at colleges across the country organize over five hundred Valentine's Day performances of the Obie-Award winning play the Vagina Monologues. The performances raise awareness about violence against women and girls and serve as fundraisers for anti-violence organizations across the country. For more information about V-Day and the Vagina Monologues, visit V-Day's website. If you would like to make SAFER the beneficiary of your V-Day performance, please contact us.
In-Kind Donations
SAFER accepts new and gently used donations from individuals, organizations, or corporations. SAFER would be thrilled to receive surplus items that can be used in our office or for our student trainings.
Matching Gifts
Many organizations or companies have a matching gift program in which contributions from an employee to a charitable organization such as SAFER are matched by the employer. If you would like your organization or company to match a gift that you have made to SAFER, please include the necessary paperwork along with your donation.
Celebrations
Have an upcoming birthday, graduation, holiday, anniversary, or wedding event? In lieu of gifts, consider asking for donations to SAFER in honor of your celebration. Checks can be sent directly to SAFER’s office or made online—simply add your name and celebration in the memo line.
Thank you for your support of SAFER! For any questions or more information regarding donations or fundraising, please contact us.
